Morrissey Construction History

Edmund Morrissey Senior founded Morrissey Construction Company in the basement of his home in 1952 with his wife Trixie by his side. Over the next several decades, Ed built Morrissey Construction on the principles of honesty, hard work and, most of all, TRUST.

As someone who firmly believed in a person’s word and handshake, Ed helped lay the foundation of his community as well as many other communities throughout the State of Illinois. His friends and family described him as a “trailblazer.” Living up to the name, Ed excelled in not only business, but family life and athletics, once trying out for a spot on the St. Louis Cardinal’s Major League Baseball Team.

Raising 11 Children While Building Morrissey Construction

While building Morrissey Construction, Ed and Trixie were also raising 11 children. Family and his children’s activities were top priority. Being an active presence in their lives, Ed took pride in leading by example and mentoring his children and 27 grandchildren.

Continuing Tradition

Ed’s son Michael M. Morrissey later purchased the company and became President & CEO after working with his father since he was 10 years old. Through the years he worked his way up as a laborer while in college, then as a carpenter, assistant superintendent, superintendent, project manager and vice president.

Along with his father, Michael and his wife Linda took great pride in the lives of their three children and nine grandchildren.

Today, Morrissey Construction is headed by Michael’s two sons, Mike and Ryan Morrissey. Mike serves as President and Ryan serves as Vice President. Each have spent their entire professional lives climbing the ranks at the company and learning from their father and grandfather.

Family Legacy

Together, with the rest of the Morrissey Construction staff, the legacy that Ed created and principles with which he built the company will be carried on and respected by future generations.
